For the first part of class, we worked on our "big projects." It's good to have a significant amount of class time to work--it makes students feel less overwhelmed and excited to come to class.

We discussed "chocolate cake theory" which essentially comes down to the critical behavior of art teachers. We should accept strangeness and strangers by being hospitable to new ideas and students who are struggling in a sometimes brutal world.
We also discussed the importance of boundaries and oppenness. Limitations can help students thrive, openness can help them explore.
With Rebecca, we learned to crochet in order to learn how crafts that involve repetition can be forms of meditation. The slow the heart rate and allow us to do something beautiful with our hands (which eventually take over automatically without us even having to think about it.)[
